Any thoughts on ebay clutches?
I have been looking at getting a decent clutch for my 1990 240sx. I originally made the mistake of buying a generic Dynapak (?) clutch from Canadian Tire. It has a 3 year warranty, but makes the car fairly lifeless compared to what was in before.
I found the OE clutch to be quite good, but the Nissan dealership wants $275+taxes for it. So, I have checked ebay and some look promising: http://tinyurl.com/b9uf4 Anyone here have any experiences with any of these? |

Off eBay. They lowerd the price and its a steal now. I got the stage 1 I should have went with atleast stage 2 But you can definitaly feel the difference in the F1 Racing clutch I love mine. Bought it and gave it to my shop. Go for it. |

Re: Any thoughts on ebay clutches?
So there may be another problem? I'll say that I'm no expert or anything, but I mostly drive pretty tamely and take it easy the vast majority of the time.
When first installed, the clutch seemed alright, but the pedal feel was lighter than stock, it was as effortless as it could get. A couple days later though, after having driven the car very little, after each gear change there's like no power at all for about the first 1-1.5 seconds. My girlfriend's dad's suggestion is that the disc is probably made of a material with a lower coefficient of friction than OEM, so it doesn't grab as hard and slips easier, so there's less power being transferred. It has a 3yr warranty, and should last that long, it's been this way for a while now, pretty much since the beginning. I never said anything was wrong with an OEM clutch type... some of the ones that came up on Ebay were OEM types... I just figure maybe the Exedy one there could be better than my current one (Dynapak). Oh, and I'm not a kid, just so you know. ![]() Thanks for replies both of you! |

Re: Re: Any thoughts on ebay clutches?
The F1 Has a Kevlar Disc. I love my Clutch, I have a 91 240sx Hatch.
At first when installed, the clutch pedal wouldn't come back up by it self, But now no problems at all. I bearly have to put the clutch in to shift. I love it. The clutch Kits on eBay are good. Again the F1 has a Kevlar (bullet proof) Disc. Much better than stock! |

Re: Any thoughts on ebay clutches?
Alright, so that's a couple testimonials, I'm pretty convinced... I will probably wait till spring, but I'll probably shell for a Gripforce/F1 Racing Stage 1 or 2 clutch.

Re: Any thoughts on ebay clutches?
It's a clutch, you can't just change it like brake pads, invest into a good one, one that won't crap out on you. Don't go cheap on your car, especially on such an important part as clutch.

Re: Any thoughts on ebay clutches?
good point pavlo if you plan on building your car upto 450hp in the next few years dont go buy one of these save about 800 and go get a better one like pavlo said dont go cheap on such an important part! if youre just going to make minor mods for about 300hp then go for a f1 racing stage 2 or 3.

Thanks a bunch! I'll probably be sticking to minor mods for now. I was hoping to go for an SR20det or perhaps an RB20DET in a few years, once I'm fully done school and employed full-time. I'd go for the full front clip, and probably leave all that stock. For now, I just want my car to get its' groove back...

Re: Any thoughts on ebay clutches?
i got an exedy OEM type clutch kit for my miata and its great. I got lucky though because moy moms coworkers husband has a shop and let me help him do it and all i had to pay for was the tranny fluid and a rear main seal because it was worn out.great deal because a local transmission shop wanted like 550 for a clutch job and like 350 since i had the clutch kit.

That website lists different prices for the ACT heavy duty clutches depending on engine type. So if I got an expensive clutch for my KA24E, it'd be no good for when I get an SR20DET or RB20DET I'm guessing.
My plan would be to get something reasonably good for a stock to stockish KA24E for now, and for the next 2-3 years. I will be installing the clutch myself, with the help of my girlfriend's dad. When I have the money for an SR20, I'll have the money for a really good clutch. If an F1 racing stage 2 or 3 or Exedy OEM replacement is as good as or slightly better than OEM, for those prices, I'm in. Especially since my KA won't be pushing ridiculous power because I don't have the money for that yet anyway! Thanks once again everyone! |
