Car Features & Production

Hello there.

I am a student from the UK and have a very limited knowledge of Cars and the automotive industry.

I was just wondering if someone could give me some information on what the following features actually do and what the benefits of them are:

Electronic Parking Aids
Rain Sensors
Keyless Ignition
Digtial Climate Control

I would also like to know if anyone knew of any websites that could give me information on how robotics are use in the manufacture of cars.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou,
Ian

Re: Features

Mostly these are just conveniance items. They make a car easier and less distracting to use, so one can increase one's attention towards the job of driving. Arguably these features improve safety for this reason as well.

Rain sensors have been around as a concept since the 1950's, but only recently became accurate and inexpensive enough to be offered in some production cars. They simply switch on the wipers and moderate wiper frequency when rain is detected.

Keyless ignition usually means that one carries an electronic key fob in ones pocket, but, instead of the traditional fob where a button must be pushed, the car senses the presence of the key fob when you are near and will unlock the doors. The engine is started with a push putton, instead of inserting a key. Simply put, one does not have to fumble with keys, which is particularly useful at night.

Electronic parking aids just sense the closeness of other objects and alert you with a noise, especially when backing up so you do not hit the car or wall behind you, and you won't back up over your kids.

Digital climate control simply is a more accurate method of maintaining a constant pre-set temperature in the car than traditional equipment.

Since I do not own a car with these features, perhaps someone else may have more accurate/detailed information?
