few questions about 94 grand am gt
I have a 94 pontiac grand am gt . when i accelerate too quickly from a full stop i hear a clunking noise from the passengers side of the car. i got it checked out and they told my i had to replace the axle so i got it replaced. they tested it out and it still happens but not as bad. when i accelerate quickly while i am driving its fine the car can go. the axle was bad so i had to replace it anyways. another thing is my car sound funny when its in reverse. when i go in reverse to fast it makes a strange rumbling noise and sometimes it makes it while i am acclerating and it changes gears but when i let go of the gas it stops and then no more noise when i accelerate again. ne ideas of what any of these could be??

Re: few questions about 94 grand am gt
my first guess is a bad front hub bearing(for both the rumble and the clunk), second guess is bad lower control arm bushings(for the clunk during hard acceleration only). Third guess is a bad torque converter(for both noises).

I would go with the rear bushing on the front control arm, it looks like a hockey puck and is a real joy to change. It can be done without removing the control arm, but you will need a ball joint press and a BIG pry bar to swing the arm out of the rail enough to get at it, along with another person to help.
