how did u learn to install parts?
my knowledge of cars is basic but growing the more i read around the forums. once i learn a lot more and by the time i turn 18 and can get a car, i will most likely get an r33/r34 gts-t. i plan to start with smaller mods, so wat r the easiest things to do first, and how did u learn to install parts? my neighbour is a car mechanic so i could get him to help but i do want to know how. nothing big though like exhausts, don't have the tools.

Buy a junk car and start repairing it... You learn by doing. There is no substitute for experience! I'd say buy a $100 craftsman tool set at Sears and go to it. Start easy like changing spark plugs and brake pads and work your way up. Go to the library and get the shop manual, or a Haynes or Chiltons manual for your particular car. Take free advice whenever you can get it. Now go get dirty! -AL

Re: Re: how did u learn to install parts?
Find people you can assist. If there is anyone around that is completely rebuilding a car that is the best example you can get. Taking everything apart and putting it back together again can do wonders for your knowledge. You then have a good mental picture of every nut and bolt.

Re: how did u learn to install parts?

Welding is usually reserved for autobody type repairs or major chassis modifications. Welding is a skill that can be learned, but for amatuer repair or modification work it won't be needed. -AL
