Re: headlight relay

YOu did not mention model year - and sadly, the modified profile available for the last week no longer shows the box where we could see your car identity if you had entered it , that was really convenient, ----- so I can tell for model 90-96 in Canada , these relays are part of the Daylight Running Lights module, - Behind Instrument Panel, left of steering column. However 90-96 did not have fogs, so I guess yours is 97 and on.

Re: headlight relay

OK this is the diagram
www.avigex.ca/xport/drl.jpg
Notice that if you use the light switch to turn the headlights ON, the relays are NOT used in the circuit, so if you do not have your headlights ON using the switch, do not loose time searching for the relays: you have some open circuit somewhere, corroded contact, ......mmmm... did you check the bulbs ?....

I understand from this that the daylight driving lamps are ON (only low beams at reduced intensity) when you turn the ignition key ON..am I correct? SO the DRL relay works and the circuit thereafter. If I"m wrong and DRL do not come on at ignition ON, check if the parking brake pedal is fully up and the brake light on the instrument panel is OFF. When applied, parking brake switch inhibits DRL and AUTO lamps ON at night (but do not disable the manual switch).

If you lay a newspaper over the left loudspeaker (where the light cell is hidden) or in fact, at nighttime, will the lights (ALL lights) come ON automatically (with ignition key ON) ? If not, you probably have a problem with the dimmer switch.

If you come with other description of symptoms, please make clear statements of behaviour about low beams and high beams and whether ignition key is ON or OFF.

..about fogs, or long distance lamps in bumper, 90-93 did not have them (my diagram) , but I think 94-96 did have them...so I'll ask Nicke66 for the '95 diagram so we have the full story.

One point of interest is point B on the DRL diode. This is the TAN wire . THe DRL diode is on top of driver side wheelhouse (has cooling fins). DIsconnect the connector from the DRL diode and test for voltage on the tan wire when you switch the headlight button ON (Key off). On the low beam position of the dimmer switch (try both positions to be sure..well in fact, you'll know because the hight beams work on the high position) you should read 12V there (between tan wire and ground). This will tell if the problem is upstream of that point or downstream towards the lights. I suspect problem is downstream -since the daylight driving lamps do not work either- that you will read 12V.
You should also read 12V on the other wire (between blu/wt and ground) with headlight switch OFF and KEY on with parking brake released. . Come back with these results.

By the way...how did that condition begin? »WHen did it stop functioning normally?
