Hello all,
I have a 1990 22r-e 4x4. I replaced the timing chain guides on the engine, buttoned her all up and ran it for about 50 miles on side streets...all seemed well. Then on the fwy, I ran it up to about 65 mph, it started to over heat, and it made a constant clankin/ banging sound. The faster I would go the louder the banging. I pulled off to the side to let it cool. Better judgement dictated to tow the truck home and inspected the engine. The banging sound is coming from the valve cover/ head area. Exhaust fumes where normal, I have oil preasure, no leaking oil, no leaking anti-freeze, but the banging continued. Removed the valve cover inspected the valves, feeler gauge and all, re-started the engine, more banging now squeeking! It really sounds like crap. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance!
