V6 Stang vs. 3000gt

Some guy at my school has a 2002 mustang (v6) with only a cold air intake and says his car would give mine a close run. I only have a K&N cold air in my 3kgt and both his and my car are autos, would he stand a chance?

Re: V6 Stang vs. 3000gt

ive been there. my friend has a v6 mustang, both of our cars are autos. he was ridin behind me oneday. got to a stop light an took a right. i jumped in the left lane an floored it.. an he was about 4 car lengths behind me. and he gained on me within 2 seconds an passed me going about 10 mph faster than me. an he got about 3 car lengths ahead of me an he couldnt pull on me anymore.. at that point i was runnin about 80. but that was on my old motor. had about 135K miles on it. an his was a 2002 or 2000, cant remember. he later totalled it tho.

I dont think the Auto 3KGT can take that car though. the Mustang just puts it down better then our autos. I've seen auto Stangs run 16s the fastest auto 3KGT DOHC that Ive ever seen ran a 17.2 so I think hes got this one in the bag.

Also you dont have K&N cold air intake, no such thing, what you have if either a drop in or a FIPK.

try challenging him to a highway run, I think those stangs top out at 120mph.

Re: V6 Stang vs. 3000gt

probably around 140, maybe a bit higher, but keep in mind at those speeds your speedo isn't exactly all that accurate.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: Re: V6 Stang vs. 3000gt

well i have a 3000gt sl stick and my friend has a v6 stang stick. Mine is all stock and he has an exhaust and an intake system and some other mods i forget like ignition and crap like that. . He is about to put a super charger on it. well we went down to a road that we know to race. and i totally dusted him except from the start. because i really suck at getting off the line he was probably 5 lengths in front of me and i just pulled through the rest of the gears and smoked him.

Maybe the SOHC runs 17's...the DOHC autos are 16's easy.

Re: V6 Stang vs. 3000gt

my raced a 5.0 turbo stang on a highway run, starting at about 45, i killed him to about 65-70 then he pulled about 3 car lengths infront of me and couldn't pull any further.

Re: V6 Stang vs. 3000gt

I looked up the 0-60 time for a auto 1998 mustang v6 and it was rated at a 9.9 second time, i think SL (automatic) time is faster than that isn't it?

Re: V6 Stang vs. 3000gt

i timed my 0-60 an it was like 8-9 seconds. thats not holding the gas an brake b4 take off. but the 98 stangs were the older style that the 00-04s. but bottom line, hes gonna beat u off the line. but hes not gonna pull on u anymore til 60-70
