Angry 96 suburban cranks - will not start

My suburban just died on me while driving there were no noises or anything, didnt run funny or anything either just as if i turned the key off. I have been messing with my truck for 2 days and getting nowhere. It has plenty of spark, 60 psi fuel pressure, I have the battery on charge while cranking the heck out of it, While cranking it seems to want to go but just gets so close but will not fire? Replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the plugs a couple times plugs wires cap rotor not that old. I have never had a problem with it starting no matter how long you drive it would fire up no problem. Someone told me could be timing chain I dont think so. Also need to fix intake manifold gasket started leaking couple weeks ago externally not into the oil. I dont know what else to do. could it be ignition module, or electronic control module.

Did the SES light come on?
Any codes stored?
Did you check all the fuses?

No light came on, no codes, all fuses are good nobody around here knows what it could be one guy said the platinum plugs could be fouled out so i replaced those but no change. My truck has 110,000 miles but it ran like a top until now? I was leaving work had my foot on the gas and it just quit running and would not start back up.

Check the fuel pressure also and look up the fuel pressure specs. It might be a fuel pump going bad and will not run good with low fuel pressure. You might want to look into this,Fel-Pro has come out with metal intake gaskets instead of plastic for the Vortec 350.They are more money but they are the better ones.Mark the distribitor BEFORE pulling it out.The timing is not adjustable. Also do not tip the distribitor cap upside down,it is an easy way to lose the screws holding on the distribitor cap.

Re: 96 suburban cranks - will not start

It was the coil wire. Had enough spark to show at the no.1 plug. But when you put a real spark tester on there was no spark. I checked the fuel pressure and had 58 pounds. Does anybody know what it should be? Its got 112000 miles on it.

not starting

Hey whartford
Try a new coil wire. You have to get it from a GM dealer. Or you have to buy the whole set from a parts store. Paid $27.00 for the wire. I had spark at the plugs but was told that I didn't have spark under compression. I changed the coil wire and it started right up.

I will try a new set of wires. Someone said the fuel pressure should be between 60 and 66 psi. I replaced my fuel pump because it had very low pressure and replaced the fuel pump regulator now I have plenty of pressure and still no go?It wants to start you get plenty of exhaust smoke while its cranking and starting fluid does nothing its like pouring water in. My dad thinks it could be the ignition module or ecm.

cranks

Make sure if you buy a set of wires that there is a coil wire in the box. Sometimes when you get wires some of the places will take the new one out and put a old one in its place. I have had it happen. Check everything out at the counter so they can't claim you switched it.

Hi whartford.
I just had some trouble myself with starting the burb. At mine it was a broken wire in the theft deterent system, which caused the ignition module to go bad, also killing the fuel pump relay and fuel pump.
Hope this helps.

Question Re: 96 suburban cranks - will not start

I have a 99 GMC and when it is cold it will not start. Has been at the garage for a week and a half now. The garage is not sure what it is. The keep checking different things sensor and modules and such. I wonder if it could be the coil wire as above. When the temp outside is about 45 or higher there is usually no problem. Also has remote start so they are checking that. Any ideas.
