Question Leakage

I have a 1994 Cheap cherokee sport w/ 237k on it i have noticed that it seems to be leaking water during rain storms it seems to be comeing from under the front console on the drivers side i am curious if anyone has had a problem like this and might have any advice my closest guess is that it is comeing in from the intake right behind the hood thanks for your feedback

Re: Leakage

My leak was the other side and it was coming through the windshield gasket. Mine is a 97, so I don't know if you have the same gasket.

Start by running a hose over the area. Have someone else shoot water at it and you can watch from inside. I had to use compressed air to find the exact areas that were leaking.

Re: Re: Leakage

Hey AlohaBra,

When you had your windshield leak, was the water drenching the floorboard area directly in front of the pass. side front seat? That's where my water is accumulating in my '97.

I read in a previous post that you put silicone over the leak. You just ran it over the leaking area on the inside of the seal?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated, as I'm getting flooded and hoping to narrow down the problem.

Thanks

Windshield leak had flooded the whole right side front carpet because Jeep (97 XJ) was parked outside. After removing kick panel, door sill panel, and panel up the A-post, I dried the carpet and pad out. Then, I was able to trace the leak to the gasket around windshield. It was between the glass and the rubber gasket. I blew compress air in from both the inside and outside and could see water leakage in the right corner. The water would seep in while parked, and when it rains for weeks in a row, you can imagine how much water came in.

I also pulled the floor plug to drain and reseal.

I am an auto tech, so I fixed it myself. I used Permatex Black Silicone gasket sealant.

But a shop can pull windshield and replace the gasket. My guess is $100 plus cost of gasket. I had two windshields in this car replaced but they never replaced the gasket.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Leakage

Thanks a lot for the details, Alohabra. That'll give me something to go on. Wherever the problem is, it's leaking like a sieve, and I have to get it fixed soon. I'll dig into it and report back...

Thanks
