the last thing you ever want to do is add weight. understeer can be combatted with things as little as tire pressure and toe, or entire suspensions.

why would you want 50/50 balance?

Yes, id like to know also, why would you want a 50/50 balance? Any weight transfer of any kind will mess up the 50/50 balance.

Re: better balance?

y not 50 50? under braking you get 5 more in the front and 5 less the back and under acceleration you get 5 more in the back and 5 less in the front so you stick and break better. its the ideal weight balance for a vehicle y do you think all the high end models are like this?

Re: better balance?

Adding weight to one end of the car to have it more balanced is horrible idea. Regardless of whatever benefit you want to argue having 50/50 offers, the extra weight to make that happens would really hinder your braking, acceleration and handling.

I've taken 300+ lbs off of my car and a large portion of that was from the driver forward so I suspect my weight balance is even "worse" than 45/55.

That being said, there are plenty of high-end performance cars that are not 50/50 so saying "all" high end cars are 50/50 is not accurate.

Realistically, the net affect of static (Sitting still) weight balance is almost negligible on performance. What really matters is the dynamic weight balance once you start throwing the car around.

mr2envy, where are you getting this data from:

under braking you get 5 more in the front and 5 less the back and under acceleration you get 5 more in the back and 5 less in the front so you stick and break better.

Re: better balance?

Franz,

The caliber of your response indicates what kind of person you are.
Thanks for being so candid.

I think it is also obvious you have no source for the "data" you offered.

Good luck with you MR2.

Re: better balance?

no one attacked anyone...

jeff had a valid point, thought not completely accurate. the static weight distribution of your car will have an effect on performance, but more for how you set the car up.

So no, in most cases you don't want to add weight to a car. Unless it is to meet a weight requirement for a racing class. The mk2 mr2 is heavy enough as it is, that it would be silly to try to "balance out the car" by making it heavier. If you want better balance, get rid of the rear metal part of your bumper (if legal in your area).

Re: better balance?

i agree with dan and hyde. and 'franz', i think a guy who runs 11.1 might have a little more experience then yourself, so it just might be prudent to listen instead of running your mouth.

who attacked who? that who would be you, and nobody else.

personally i'm interested if there's any way to measure dynamic response. outside of torsional rigidity and static distribution, are there any other factors that are measureable?

thanks

You attacked me - Post #6.

You posted something as a FACT.
I asked for clarification on where you got that information and Post #6 is your response? Please explain what that adds to the discussion?

If you know "someone who knows more" than us, why don't you ask them your question instead of posting on here?

If you asked us if you could get to the 10th floor of a building by jumping out of a 5th floor window and we said no ... would we have to try it to know?
