Car Wont Start

I was going down the highway and the car stoped giving power id push the accelerator and it wouldnt give any power so i put it in nutural and as soon as the rpm went down the car shut off well i towed it home and when i would try to turn it on it wouldnt start shooting back like gun shots, i thought it was the ignition coil inside the distributor i bought it today and the only thing it did was that it stopped the shooting does any one else know what could be wrong? the modulor in the distributor is new also...

is the distributor on tight?

is the rotor on good, did the screw fall out ?

yes definatly check the screw on the rotor button
