The 88 thru 90 models have a emission maintainance timer which activates the emissions maintainance indicator light when milage shows it's time to replace the oxigen sensor. You must replace the timer or unplug it to turn off the light. I guess the idea was that you would replace the oxigen sensor and the timer every 80,000 miles or so. The timer is under the dash to the right of the steering column. You may have to move the cruise control module to get to it.

Jeepme is correct, both my 89 and 90 had this problem, I replaced it on one and disconnected it on the other. NO MORE light.

Re: Emiss maint Light
Is there any way at all to reset the timer? I will be replacing my O2 Sensor but if the light still comes on when I go to get my emissions done this year Im sure it will cause the inspection to fail.

Re: Emiss maint Light
On a 19 year old vehicle, I'd get rid of it. That light is so you can schedule a service at the dealer, which is called a "profit enhancer" in the local service departments.
