Re: new starter, won't start

It's time to get a test light and a volt meter and go back to basic diagnosis:

1. Does your battery have power? Is it a full 12 volts?

2. Does the relay energising wire (the one that provides 12 volts when you turn the key to 'start') actually have power when you turn the key?

3. Does the fat wire going from the battery to the relay have 12 volts?

4. When you turn the key does the fat wire from the relay deliver 12 volts to the starter motor?

Isolating the problem is the first step to solving it.

Re: new starter, won't start

What year and model?
The later ones have a circuit breaker. Mine had a bad ignition switch that cause the circuit breaker to go out. <97XJ sport>

Take the starter out and test it with jumper cables hooked to it.

Manual or automatic? Both have safety switches that prevent starting while in gear.

You never mentioned if other electrical items all work.

Follow MagicRat's advice about isolating the cause.

Let us know how you're going.
