Question What is that side vent thingy?

It must be a defogger for the side view window so you can see the mirror, but it blows no air. It's about 1.5 inchec long with some fixed louvers. I tried every setrting including defogger, but no air blows out of it. Anybody know what this thing is for? Thanks!

Re: What is that side vent thingy?

If you will notice, there is a little rubber grommet on the dash that seals between the dash and door, when the door is closed. I am still trying to figure out what this is for. I assume you are correct, concerning the side window defrost; however, I have not been able to feel any air flow either. Maybe it was a good design that never panned out!

Air comes out of it in one of the mode settings. I'll have to check tomorrow morning when I use the car again. It provides a low volume flow of air to clear humidity from that area of the glass that can haze over easily.

Re: What is that side vent thingy?

I think what your talking about is for the side windows.... It is a defroster and will clear both passenger and driver side windows..... It works when you turn on the front defrost.... It doesnt blow out hard at all...even on high setting.....

Re: What is that side vent thingy?

Well, today we had a rainy cool morning and I had to turn on the defrost. I had a piece of tissue paper and placed it on top of "that side vent thingy", and it had enough air flow to blow the tissue paper off the vent. I guess I never felt any air because I never put my hand up there to test it. Now, I know it has a small amount of air in the defrost position. I can once again rest easy!

Re: What is that side vent thingy?

Thanks for the replies. I'll try the defroster again and put some tissue over it too. That door passthru hole sure seems big for the amount of air I'm hearing goes thru it!
