can't start after changing battery

I just put a new battery in my '94 jetta. All the electrical systems work fine but the starter won't engage. Even with a boost, the starter won't engage. It's like i've tripped some anti-theft system.

any suggestions?

I'm jumping in on this thread as well. I'm having the same problem again. Same year as well. It happened once before, my locks are broken so the place I took it to rewired it so that it was 'un-tripped'. Recently the cheapy battery died out while at a garage (I have no time to do own repairs currently I GOT A JOB!! Sweet!)...eh...anyway, They were able to do something witht he wires in the door as there was a blinking light when it was engaged.
