How much on average would this cost in canadian dollars? Im just wondering because I don't know the first thing about rebuilding an engine and have no clue whats required plus its winter and I have no garage so it would be hard to do myself even if i did know. and also whats the cost before labor?

Re: Engine Rebuild ?

it depends on what you're rebuilding on the engine. If you're just going to tear it down, clean it up and rebuild, it won't cost a whole lot....just the cost of bearings, gaskets, seals and a couple other misc parts that you may have to fix.

Now, if you were building the engine up for something or if you were replacing parts, it would start to cost a lot more. Pistons aren't cheap, having the crank micropolished isn't cheap, if you need a 3 angle valve job and can't do that yourself, that gets spendy, there are just a lot of variables that make the costs soar.

I think that you could rebuild for less than $500 IF you weren't going to start replacing things and taking the head apart.

Re: Engine Rebuild ?

my suggestion is to get a engine from a junkyard that matches your cars engine , buy a engine stand , drain the junkyard motor, and bring it inside and designate a work area. then during the winter do a rebuild of the junkyard motor and when spring comes youve got a pretty new(ish) motor

Re: Engine Rebuild ?

I'll second that. Shit never works right when I am working on cars, so I would just buy another engine to build, that way if the shit gets deep you arent out a car for a long time. If you just want to take it apart and clean it, then it should be too big of a deal but a slightly time consuming one.
