I believe there are six freeze plus on that engine and head. I think you will find a plug on the back(by the fire wall) and side of the head. On the block check under the flywheel, and on the intake/exhaust manifold side. 1 5/8 " plugs went on the '74. Consider brass, hope that helps.

Re: Re: freeze plug count...

well, i went to the auto parts store and talked to the guy and he said the computer shows 3 on the side 1 in the back and then he didnt say how many in the head cause im not too worried about doing those yet. i see two on the side leaking, both driver side on both sides of the intake, and think the third might be under the intake. and then i think i found the rear one which is larger than the side ones. its was like a little rear of the oil pan and a little higher. one side of it was bent inward, like someone tried to knock it loose before. ive only had this car for 2 weeks mind you... i dont think they are hard to get to. will coolant pour out when i pull them out? should i flush the radiator first? i hope i got the right plugs ;p i got brass ones and some gasket sealer.

You are on your way :0). There is a install tool that will make this job easier.

1.Drain your coolant** keep pets away! It is VERY toxic**

2.take the radiator to a shop and have it dipped and pressure tested .

3. replace the easiest leaking one first. Be careful not to damage any part of the block or cylinder wall. The ones not leaking (Tough call) I would not mess with...yet!

4. I might try drilling a hole then use a slide hammer, or a TEE HOOK like the one that body shops use. The exhaust system is easy enough to remove and reinstall (new gasket) and is probably loose any way, these sixes do that from the vibration.

5. The install tool keeps it square (no pun intended) and be patient just like fishin'. Got to get the right angle and it will snug itself into place then pound. Watch the depth! The sealer, I can't recomend.

6. Use jack stands...knew someone that didn't.

7. new thermostat, cap, hoses, etc.

8. Refill and burp system then down the road uh-huh!~~~ let us know!
