I just bought a GIAC chip for my 2000 audi s4 off EBAY. I don't know how the installation process goes. Does anyone know if there are speciall installation techniques to this process, or is it just changing the chip and go?

The website you sent me was good. Thanks. I tried to do it on my own that way and it still does not work. I followed the instructions, but still the car doesn't start. Do you know what else could be wrong?

posibly the programming its self is faulty... I got my chip installed at waterfest and the first 3 times they had to go back and do somthing with it... im not degrading what you bought but ebay has alot of rip offs.. I have heard of people buying chips and never haveing them work becuse it is not a real chip...but i would call or e-mail giac

GIAC sells their chips for around $600 new. I found a chip on Ebay and put a bid on it, and won it at $153. It was just the chip alone, no ECU. I got the chip shipped, it had GIAC engraved on the back of the chip, and it looked authentic. Followed the installation instructions from APR's website and was not able to start the car after the install. I was thinking that it could be a little different installation for GIAC compared from APR chips. If anyone has any info on this matter, please let me know. Thanks everyone.

Re: Audi S4 chip install.
ok... so you got the chip alone.. the ecu needs to be opened up..the stock chip cut out..and a giac socket soldered in by a giac dealer... and then the giac chip plugged into the socket...what exactly did you do with the chip? I'm a little confused.. i'm not sure what the apr site says aside from installing/uninstalling the ecu... regardless of that, apr's chips are soldered in..no socket.. giac chips cannot be soldered in b/c they are encrypted and it needs the socket to decode it..

I just don't understand why it doesn't work. I have followed the installation tips step by step and still the car wont start. This is what i did. I unplugged the battery for half an hour. Unhooked the edu, opened it up, disconnected the OEM chip, took it out, and replaced it with the GIAC chip. Put the ecu back together, plugged it back in, reconnected the battery. Waited for about a minute, then put the key in the ignition and turned it, but not start it. Left it there for 5 minutes and then tried to start it and the car wouldn't start. Anything that i missed out in the process?

Re: Audi S4 chip install.
i think if you read marked001's post he tells you that you need to have it SOLDERED in. you dont just put it in. you need someone to basically weld it in. that might be where you missed a step.

Re: Audi S4 chip install.
yeah..i'm just realy confused here b/c the OEM chip is soldered in... the legs need to be cut off then a socket soldered in place...then the new giac chip plugged into the giac socket... dunno what directions are on apr's site..but i believe all of apr's chips are soldered in...no plugins..

Thanks for the reply guys. I think the sautering it in is what i need to do. I think I'm going to take it to an Audi shop here in Seattle and see if they can install it. I just didn't want to spend the extra money if the chip is bad, but i guess i'll have to. Thanks.
