it is very much worth it to do yourself.

In a person's situation like yours where you want to raise the car up every year getting coilovers is a good idea. The cheapest good set of coilovers on the market right now IMO are the Omnipower and Tein Basics. Or you can just go with a coilover sleeve like the Ground Controls. I would go with a full setup, but it's up to you and your wallet.

Re: springs

i'm iffy i'm tryin it myself, not super handy, but seems simple enough, i was under the impression that a spring compressor was needed? but i'm thinkin that's what the jack forcin it up was for?

Re: springs

the jack is to raise the lower control arm while installing the entirely assembly back into the car.

Re: springs

In those instructions, he removes the upper nut while the strut and spring assembly is still on the car.

Usually you just remove the two nuts that mount the strut to the shock tower and pull it out as an assembly. When you go to remove that upper nut on the strut there is a good chance that things will start flying because the spring is compressed and when you remove that top nut the spring decompresses and flings things left and right.

That's where the spring compressor comes in, you compress the spring and hold it there so that you can safely remove that upper nut. When installing springs you need to compress the spring to get the top hat, that nut and everthing else back on.
