99 Passat GLX steering problems

Hi, as I was driving y'day, my battery light went on and then it became nearly impossible to steer. Any ideas what is causing this? I checked my power steering fluid and it is full. No clue as to what else to check?

Thanks in advance

Re: 99 Passat GLX steering problems

How's your serpentine belt look? If the battery light came on then it sounds like the alternator isn't charging which means that the power steering pump also isn't working if your belt is either broken or losing tension and slipping. Check the belt tension if the belt looks OK.
