Rear Differntial Gear Ratio's

I drive a 1996 pontiac firebird formula. I just recently found out that my back end is trassshheeddd, to say the least. Has anyone put in differnt gear ratio's then stock? i was looking at going 3:63 or 3:73, can anyone comment on how well they work? how expensive they are? cautions? any information you can tell me about them would be excellent.

Thanks for your time.

Re: Rear Differntial Gear Ratio's

I currently have 3.73's in my auto and love them but for a stick I would recommend swapping in 4.10's as you can go higher due to the better overdrive ratios.

could you explain what the differnece between 3:73 and 4:10's would be? also how do they affect highway driving? Also how much was it for your 3:73 gears?

Re: Rear Differntial Gear Ratio's

they are like 179 for richmond gears threw summit and the difference would be travel of the wheels per rotation of your driveshaft. More gear you have faster you have the ability to accelerate but run too much gear and you run into the rev limiter. You really need to do some research if your unaware of the difference and do you have a stick?
