heated mirrors

hey guys i didnt get a reply in the sierra forum so im asking here seems like more people in the silverrado forum

i have a 2002 gmc sierra and the heated mirrors dont seem to work my rear window defrost works but they dont so i have 2 questions

1. does anyone know if the defrost icon on the mirrors lights up when they are turned on?

2. has anyone else had this problem with heated mirrors? is it a common thing or an easy fix? and how hard is that back panel on the mirror to get off ? it doesnt look like fun.

id like to get them working they are very handy up here in canada where we get a real winter. so any help would be appreciated thanks

Re: heated mirrors

No the icon does not light up.

If you have turn signals beware as the fluid will ruin hte paint if you break the mirror and get the fluid on your paint. The mirrors are attached to a center plug with a bunch of tabs. If you can reach behind the miror and start lightly releasing hte tabs you can get the mirror out.

Good Luck.

Re: heated mirrors

To get the chrome off there are 4 tabs behind the mirror and about 8 double sided tape pieces. There is only one way in, through the mirror. If you have a pick with a small bend, "L", at the end it works slick. If you have a wiring diagram I would find the colored wire behind the triangle on the inside of the door and see if you have power there before going into the mirror.

My truck has heated mirrors but i still havent figured out how they work. Do they turn on when I press the defrost button for the back window or what?
