Need Help ASAP, Can you solder glasses frames?
Ok, screwing around in dorm lobby, f'ing stupid wearing glasses. The part of the lens that holds the frame, right where it screws together to clamp the lens in, it broke. I was wondering if it was possible to solder this thing back toghether, I am going to the eye docter tommorow morning, but I was wondering if any of you had the experience wiht this. Thanks!!

Depending on the material the frame is made of. If it's cheap then yes...my old glasses broke several times and I soldered them back together several times.

When I broke mine I asked my dad about it since he's really good at soldering and he tried it but it didn't work at all. I put them on and they fell apart. I hear duct tape works well though...

no, i doubt it'll hold up. try this: bend the other earpeice down so its vertically down. then, hold it up with your hand whenever you need it. trust me, its classy. add a thick old english accent, too!

No, the way its broke, duct tape won't work. Where its brok,e the two pieces that are threaded are still in place, its where the lens holder part bends to form the tapped piece that the screw goes into, it broke there. They aren't really cheap frames, so I prob won't be able to solder them. I have some left over contacts but they are at home. And home is an hour away.... And me being f'ing stupid didn't bring my spare set of glasses here to college.

Yes, I grew up on a farm, believe me, duct tape will fix anything. But it would fix it, but then atleast 1/4" of my lens will have duct tape on it, and that wouldn't be cool. But if worse came to worse, duct tape would work... But before that, I would just find someone with some bad ass TIG torch skills...

See it all the time at Dad's office. From your description, it sounds like they broke forward of the temple's hinge (assuming it has hinges) - in that case, you'll have to go to where you bought them and order a new front - should be considerably cheaper than getting a whole new frame, assuming you wanted to keep those frames anyways (you'd have to get new lenses as well if you got another frame). You could try soldering them if you need to - sounds like the front will just be replaced anyways so you can't really do them any harm - as long as the rim can still be opened to get the lens out...
