Winter and couple personal questions =)
Since winter is here in the states, especially where i'm from and snow is everywhere now, do you fellas still have an urge to race? or do ya guys put the steelies on and drive like a grandma untill spring??
also, does street racing mature as age?? meaning.....i was talking to some guys and they said when they were younger they used to race everyone they see on the streets, etc...but as they got older, they drove more careful and mind their own business, and dont waste time racing "one of those" civics, etc....does this pertain to you fellas in here also?? or....are you guys still trying to race anything that looks modded on the streets? drive safely....

Re: Winter and couple personal questions =)
Personally, I'll race anyone willing to race me, unless it's like a vette or something. I have such a shitty time trying to find a decent race, I'll take on just about anything. Of course this did come back to haunt me a few nights when I was lined up with a modded civic at a light, launched on with AWD, and once again fried my slave cylinder. Oh well, good excuse to get my new ACT 2600.

Re: Winter and couple personal questions =)
I've become a bit of a race snob in my old age...if I KNOW I can beat them, I won't even bother racing them...this was not the case 4 or 5 years ago when I tried to get any car with an aftermarket anything to race me...now I just look for cars that are faster or cars around the same speed as me...which is probably why I lose so much. I'd have to say the biggest change is in the amount of highway racing I've done, it's decreased dramatically with age.

Re: Winter and couple personal questions =)
I did a snow rallycross a couple of years ago, and may do a bit of ice racing this year. I figure with the snow tires I have, the STi will do 0-60 in about 6 sec. in 4" of snow.

i'm a snob too, its not worth it EVERY time, so i'm very picky or i do it for money and nothing over 3rd gear for sure, at that point random deer might run out in front of me again, if i had lesser wheels i would put them on, and if i can get the money for some i've got part of a set already, i like my GTS wheels, they look very good

Re: Winter and couple personal questions =)
if there in the low 14 second range i'll race em.
anything slower is wasting my gas money. i do not race in rain or anything stupid like that. when i was young i raced a 240sx in my eagle talon on the freeway when it was raingin sooo hard that the car starts to hydroplane just doing the normal speed. well i was doing 120mph in that. my buddy died doing that. my dad still street races but only to like 13 second cars nothing slower, and only sometimes then

Re: Winter and couple personal questions =)
I never really was a street racer, but I did it every now and then. First time down the track though in my car and that "cured" any desires to race on the street, lol.
It gave me a new perception on what fast was, lol. Of course it's alot slower now then it was then, but its still faster then any production car. So yeah, my first trip down the race track changed my mind about street racing. About the only "hot rodding" I do now on the streets is going up hill pulling that car, lol, and you really can't qualify that as hot rodding considering 45 or 50 mph is about the best your going to muster up the long, steep grades. And winter means its time for repairs/rebuilds/improvements and a lot of garage racing!

My car weighs just over 2000 pounds. I get no traction in the snow at all.

Re: Winter and couple personal questions =)
ive noticed as ive gotten old and faster, i dont race as much. One thing i realised, the faster your car goes, the faster over the speed limit you go in a smaller amount of time.
Even though i drive a cavalier, i dont race cars that i know i can beat. Its not worth it really. Racing a car you know you will beat isnt much of a thrill. The cold air makes me want to race more though, supercharger+cold air= Gobs more power. |

Snow? I thought that only occured once a year? Considering I'm in the Texas Panhandle we don't get alot of snow and it is usually late in the season. We get plenty of icy weather though, it is best to just stay in doors when it gets like that and avoid driving as if it were the plague. Lubbock drivers can't drive to save their lives in dry weather, god forbid you'd cause a huge pileup if you spit on an intersection.

Re: Winter and couple personal questions =)
I wish it would snow...just to see if this AWD really works :-P
I personally wouldn't ever race in the snow, that shit is asking for trouble. The fastest I've ever gone in the rain is 190kmh (120mph) on the freeway and that was scary shit even with AWD. I do that route almost every day, so I would never do it on an uknown road. I love aussie winters, not cold enough for ice and snow, but cold enough that my turbo to feel at home!

The truck will stay nice and cozy in the garage for most of the winter, while I drive my Jeep through the nasty stuff. Altho, I'll still bring the R/t out on occasion when the weather is clear and the roads are clean, the cold air is just too much fun to resist, cold air + boost = way too much fun
