Re: How to replace a Crankshaft positioning Sensor in a 1999 Sonata

Which engine do you have? I'll cover the 2.4l 4 cylinder. But before I do heres somethin you should know. DESCRIPTION:

The 1999-2000 Sonatas Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor is incorrectly called the Crankshaft Position Sensor in the Parts Catalog.

The table below lists the correct part number and description for the Camshaft Position Sensor and the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor for the 1999 and 2000 Sonata.

Table 1: Correct Description for CMP CKP
PART NUMBER /PART DESCRIPTION/ MODEL- ENGINE/ PARTS CATALOG PAGE
39310-38050
SENSOR -- CAMSHAFT POSITION
99/00 2.4L I4 SONATA
31

39310-38060
SENSOR -- CRANKSHAFT POSITION
99/00 2.4L I4 SONATA
80

39350-37110
SENSOR -- CAMSHAFT POSITION
99/00 2.5L V6 SONATA
34

39180-37150
SENSOR -- CRANKSHAFT POSITION
99/00 2.5L V6 SONATA
81

NOTE
The descriptions Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor andTop Dead Center (TDC) Sensor are interchangeable. They describe the same sensor.
The above description error will be corrected in future Parts Catalogs.

Ok and now for the replacement of the sensor: On the 4 banger the crankshaft position sensor (CKP) is located right above the cranshaft pully and to the right. Here is a picture, the top picture is the camshaft sensor, the one you're looking for is the one in the bottom pic

Heres a pic of where it is located on both the 2.4l and 2.5l engines. Heres the 4 cylinder 2.4l the sensor is 10 on the pic
ad heres the v6 pic and its also #10
