Who has any idea which race this VW Golf ever raced?

I always try to keep track of the history of my built models (or to-do kits for that matter). I have found the race history of every single model I ever made, except for this one. It's a VW Golf, that's for sure, but I have no clue where or what it ever was used for. I built the kit about 25 years ago...

Can anyone give me a clue???

looks like a late 70's/ early 80's european styling, somewhat like porsches of that area with lots of wide body add ons
