I have a 92 Ranger w/ the 4.0L in it. The truck had brake work done around a month ago. I had new self adjusters put on in the rear, new pads and calipers in the front, along with the rotors resurfaced. The rear shoes and drums at that time was in good shape. All of a sudden tonight my rear antilock brake came on tonight, and than went off, and which in about a 2 hour period came on and went off a good 15 times. The brakes seem to be just fine though with no problems. Also I have no brake like coming on whatsoever when I push my emergency brake in. About 2 weeks ago I had a problem with my battery light coming on, it would come on at times and would stay on, than if I shut off the truck and start it back up, it wouldnt always come back on with it. At that time I also had a CEL come on one time, and it had some problems running rough and smoking. Had a sensor replaced by the shop and no problems since than. I'm not sure if its an electrical problem, or what the hecks going on. Someone please help.

Re: rear antilock light gone insane!
Well it looks like I'm just going have no choice but to put it in the shop because now this morning the service engine light came on and the truck started running really rough and also had like whinning noise from the motor. When I shut off the truck and restarted it the SEL was off but it was still running really rough and with the noise, than which in 5 minutes my SEL came back on. If anyone does have any ideas please post them because I cant always believe what the shops here in my area tell me. There is no true trustworthy shop in my area.

Re: Re: rear antilock light gone insane!
The SEL light and running rough was because of several vacumn lines were undone. SEL light is staying off and its running good again. However the brake light is still going insane by coming on and going off, so I'm going to call the shop that did all the brake work and have them take a look at it, however if anyone has any ideas what could possibly cause it for I can possibly keep them from ripping me off, please post.

Re: rear antilock light gone insane!
Well since I dont know jack shit about ABS systems, I'm still going to have the shop take a look at it, but I apprecriate your input, that way if they try feeding me the b.s. of needing different parts thats going to cost some heavy cash I know to get a second opinion.

Re: rear antilock light gone insane!
When my Ranger has the antilock light fluctuation, It is usually low on brake fluid.

Re: Re: rear antilock light gone insane!
Well I got the truck back from the shop and it turned out it was the ABS Sensor. Total cost of $64, that was finding the problem, and them using their part and putting on, so that wasn't bad. They tried to feed me the b/s that I also needed new shoes and drums in the rear because my shoes were so worn I was metal to metal and that caused my drums to wrarp, and they said they'd do it for $200 however I knew better than to have them do it, as not that long ago I had the front brake work done and the back brakes had a good 50% life left on them and that if they were metal to metal contact I'd be able to hear it and also the pedal would be low, so I wasn't about to let them soak me for it though. Thanks for the replies though.
