New 93 3000 vr4 owner question
I bought my 3000 gt vr4 from my aunt, it has 114000 miles on it. i have a few questions. the main one is, it did not have the owners manual in it. she told me i could switch myexhaust, but i can not get it to work. i called the dealership they told me to press the ECS button, but when i do, nothing happens, it still comes out the drives side exhaust and thats all. the button does not stick in or anything. is it suppose to? does a light come on in the dash? I have not put tags on it, so its sitting in my driveway, i cranked it last night and let it run, then the check engine light came on? this afternoon, i cranked it, and it didnt come on???

Re: New 93 3000 vr4 owner question
on the bottom left of the instrument panel (the bottom left of the tach) there should be a green light that says "Tour" or "Sport". pushing the ECS will change it from Tour to Sport. Your exhaust will always flow more from the left side. When you punch the gas and it gets over 2k or 3k rpm it will automatically go into "Sport" mode and exhaust will come out both sides. It will still say "Tour" when you punch it, but the exhaust will still open up.
BTW, welcome to the forum, and you chose a great car to buy. I highly recommend reading the FAQ.

If you live in a state that gets snow and where they use salt to melt the snow, if your aunt ever drove the car in the winter there will be a good chance that the active exhaust no longer works. There is a valve in the main exhaust pipe that switches from one side of the exhaust to the other. If that valve is corroded, you will not hear a difference in exhaust note. -Rod |

The exhaust will come out more on the drivers side no matter if you are in sport or tour, its a fake dual.

I am still confused. I have the button that says tour or sport, if i press tour, it lights up green on the dash saying tour. But i also have the ECS button as well, but when i press that nothing happens? what is suppose to happen when you press the ECS button, someone said it makes tour come up, but that has a seperate button for that? If I press the ECs button, is it suppose to stick in? because when i press it it does not stay? But i was just confused because the tour and sport button makes it come up green tour? not the ECS button? |

Re: New 93 3000 vr4 owner question
i see your confusion. Shroud described it as i understand it. i don't have a VR4, but i DO know that the ECS button controls the Electronically Controlled Suspension (hence the acronym). i was under the impression that there are "Sport" and "Tour" modes for the ECS. this determines whether or not the shock is stiffer or less stiff.
i don't see how the ECS button works in conjunction with the Active Exhaust. this is where the confusion comes in. if you look in the diagram below of the dash indicator lights, you can see that indicators 19 and 20 correspond to the ECS modes Tour and Sport. Indicator 31 corresponds to the Active Exhaust operation. So i think that Shroud was correct in his description of the location of the Active Exhaust button AND when that button is pressed, a certain light (different from ECS lights) will appear.

Re: New 93 3000 vr4 owner question
Just to clear up the confusion a bit more.
Both ECS and Active Exhaust have 2 modes (sport and tour) The ECS is for suspension, the other button is for hte exhuast.
