88 Trooper engine swap
I just got an 88 Trooper 4x4 with the base 2.6L four cylinder...the engine has a blown head gasket, and needs some other work to get it going again, and from what I've read, it's a pain to replace. I'd really like to drop in a GM 3.8 V6 (the optional engine from what I understand) that's in good condition to save myself from having to tear down an engine, but mainly to get more power. Has anybody done this, know someone who has, or have any knowledge on the subject? Can I keep the stock tranny, or do I need to put the donor vehicle's tranny in? Aside from that, is it a rather straightforward swap? I don't mind a little work, but if I end up needing to replace a lot of components to get it to work, I may just go ahead and change out the head gasket on the four banger. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: 88 Trooper engine swap
You will need a different tranny since the 3.8 won't bolt up. Wire harness. ECU. and most likely new motor mounts.
I vote for a new head gasket.
