Question heated seat filters

I have a 2003 LS and would like to change the filters for the heated seats. Does anyone know what is involved to do this. I have been told that you have to remove the seats!! It cost over $100 to have the dealer do the job.

Huh? Are you talking about the heating element (see below diagram 1)?? ... Or maybe the heating ducts or cabin filter (diagram 2)?? Let's narrow this down so the dealer doesn't rape you!

Re: heated seat filters

Removing car seats is a simple task. I used to remove the seats in my Jeep and Shadow to remove and hose off the entire carpet in the driveway!

The dealer said the filters filter the intake air for the motors. I assume they circulate the heated air?? Thanks for the diagram, but does it show any filters? The cabin filter is accessible from the hood and is located near the firewall (passenger's side). I've changed this filter once.

I might give it a try. Only, where in the heck are the filters located?

They are apparently under the seats and filter air for the motors that circulate the air.

Re: heated seat filters

Why do you need to change them(if they indeed exist)?

The seat heaters are elements which derive warmth via electrical current (similar to an electric blanket or heating pad). I've never heard of heated seats utilizing motors, filters and hot air. I think you got fed some bogus info.

If these are the heated AND cooled seats, they do indeed use blowers. The seats use a Peltier device to electrically generate both warmed and cooled air, so the system doesn't have to wait for the engine in either case. A blower moves air across the Peltier and then out through the perforations in the seat. The system is manufactured by Johnson Controls.

These are heated and cooled seats. Do you know where the filters are located?

Ah-ha! Probably would have helped if he mentioned the perforations ... I still have no idea since I don't have those type of seats; only heated.

I know the blower is under the seat bottom and has a flex duct that runs up into the back. I would imagine there is a intake plenum that the blower is mounted in. Should be relatively easy to locate with an inspection mirror and a flashlight.

I have an ancient LS w/o any form of seat temp control, so my experience is purely anecdotal.

Here's the best picture I've seen of the ducting:http://www.llsoc.com/V2R1/Resources/..._intro_23a.asp
