Re: Re: T5 4 cyl to 5.0 Will it fit

The piloit bearing is from an 85 desiel ranger. The only difference between the two trannys are that the 4cylinder has different gear ratios in it. So it will seem like you have 4.10s when u really only have stock gears.(They are really steep!)

The reason why u need a different pilot bearing is becuase the snout on the 4 banger trans input shaft is longer and a little bit skinner in diameter.

I run a 4 cylinder tranny in my 5.0 stang and it's great!

I believe the T/O bearing is different too.

How much longer do you expect that tranny to hold up? They are not rated to handle a lot of torque.

Ford rates the 4 cylinder tranny at about 240 ft/pounds for toruqe. It depends on which year. I used the same throw out bearing, so i don't know about that.

Its holding up fine for me so far, but i have only used it for a couple of months now. Just be easy on it and it should last a while.

Re: T5 4 cyl to 5.0 Will it fit

They could almost be two diff trannies. The 5.0 is if I remember correctly, a "world class T-5" which is loads stronger than your 4 cyl T-5 (got a scrapped 4 cyl T-5 for proof, didn't last a month mated to a 306 with bolt ons). Anyways, hope the tranny holds up better for you than it did us.
