Won't start, any ideas?
Ok well I have a 92 eclipse gsx turbo and i can't get it to start. Battery is fully charged, spark plugs are good, but it wont turn over. I can get headlights and the dash lights up, but it won't even make a sound to turn over. I pulled out the starter and tested it running it off the battery with jumpers, and it works just fine. The only thing I can think of is that there is something wrong with the ignition wire. I checked the ignition fuse, that is also good. I'm thinking there has got to be a short or something along the ignition wire somewhere, but could it be something else? I'm going to run a bypass from the igntion solenoid on the starter to the battery only to see if it will then start up and then i'll take it off if it does, I'll post how it goes. But what would be the best way to see if the ignition wire is dead? Any answers would be helpful at this point, thanks!

Re: Won't start, any ideas?
It could possibly be that your timing belt broke. Remove the inspection cover to have a look.

Sounds like what happened to mine. The wiring to the starter went bad so I wired up my own relay to the starter to get it working. Attach a wire to the positive of the starter, put the key in the on position, and then touch the wire to the positive of the battery and see if it starts...

Re: Won't start, any ideas?
well the engine also wont turn over by hand. Will this hurt anything if i get the starter working? I can turn it about half way both ways before it locks up. Some cars dont let u turn it al the way over though, so I was curious to whether this was also a problem or not.

Re: Won't start, any ideas?
how was it running before? did you have a timing belt job done?
you should be able to turn it over completely all the way by hand. i'd start ruling things out. check and make sure all the timing marks are lined up. if they're good i'd try turn it over it might be the tranny locking it up. have someone turn it over while you listen around a couple different areas to see if you can hear any clicking or rubbing or anything like that. |

Re: Re: Won't start, any ideas?
Well i fixed up the jumpers to the starter and the car attempted to turn over. Worked like a charm. End up that the ignition wire which went up the switch had burned off either at it, or somewhere along the line. But its working now, thanks guys! Just gotta drain the oil, take the pan off, and take a peek up into the engine to see whats locking up the engine. I'll post and let you know how it goes. Thanks!
