Re: Ferrari 126 C2

It's a nice kit (based on the old Protar release) but with good quality re-artworked decals rather than the old rub-down versions.

There is only one major error...the front and rear wheel diameters should be the same. I roughed out a basic rear wheel using a front outer rim - if I recall a standard 70's Tamiya rear Goodyear could be coaxed on but the logo was too close to the rim. Ideally the logo needed to be sanded of the tyre and then added with a stencil further out towards the tread...by this time I lost interest. I'm unaware of any detail sets for it - though a few years back I got about halfway through making a US GP twin-wing kit for it. Engine detail is good, but I've known keen modellers to use resin copied turbo's for it from the Tamiya 1/12th RE-20 kit.

Ooh this is my favourite F1 car of ALL TIME!

The only after-market stuff I've been able to find are replacement decals from IndyCals:

http://www.indycals.com/

which I have on order - as well as being a lot more opaque (whiter whites etc) they have the driver decals of Mario Andretti, but bear in mind that the car was quite different in the late season when he drove it at Monza and Las Vegas with new front suspension and some other changes.

There's a great book from Meri Kits called Ferrari 126 C2 Model Guide with plenty of colour detail shots. I bought mine from Grand Prix Models:

Can't comment on the kit, but I agree that the Meri book is indespensible if you're building a C2. I have two copies it's so good

Actually, I lost one and ordered a replacement before finding the original. Doh.
