Battery gauge dropping

97 Cherokee.

The battery gauge has started to just drop from 14v to as low as it can go. Auto Zone checked it and found the alternator putting out 82 amps, I think it's only a 90 amp alternator, but siad the battery was bad.
Return bad battery to Walmart for credit and purchased a new one.My wife reported the same thing is happen. Occassionally

Orginal alternator, with 165K on the Jeep.

All other gauges are fine, except for a few dash board light over the battery side of the dash board that have been out for years.

While I was driving my Mom's 93 JGC I looked down and saw the battery gauge all the way down. When I looked again it was back to the normal 14v. About 2 months later the alt. died. Seems like your might be on its way out. I would just replace it, it's quick and easy.

Just buy a reman from autozone or checker. They have a life time warranty. Just make the place test the new alt. before leaving the store.
