Question Jumping 91 Corolla

hi,
i just bought myself a 91 corolla manual xmission car. it has only 108,000 miles on it.

the car does not have any trouble starting (even in 30F pre-winter temperatures). i warm up the engine for 5 minutes before i take it for a ride. the car starts jumping when it is in the first two gears. This happens when i accelerate a little bit. but this goes off after some time of driving.
Later when i slw down on the second gear (with out brakes) the car starts jumping again....

has anybody faced a similar issue? do you know what mught be wrong?

Help Please!!

Re: Jumping 91 Corolla

Welcome to the AF!

From what you've said, it is probably your driving technique. You probably baby the clutch engagement (guessing). There is a set of springs in the clutch plate that cushion the engagement and allow the driveline some give. These springs can cause your car to "jump" back and forth if you happen to be just right on how you engage the clutch and this will differ when the clutch is cold and when it is warmed up from driving.

Try being a little more agressive in engaging the clutch (don't squeal the tires, but accelerate by engaging the clutch faster than you do and/or giving it more accelerator pedal while engaging the clutch) and see if this solves the problem.
