Question No reverse on my '96 Windstar!

I bought a '96 Windstar GL last year and it ran great up until a couple of months ago. It started with not wanting to go forward in drive. When I switched it down to gear 2, it would go forward. After I hit about 30mph, I switch back into Drive. But if the overdrive light is blinking, it will go forward in regular drive just fine.

Shortly after this started, my reverse went out. I'm talking completely. I've had to walk back into stores several times recently asking some big strong man to help push me out of my parking space, lol.

I took it to one shop and they had no recommendations other than replacing the transmission. Do you guys have any other ideas as to what is going on and how to resolve the problem? Thanks!

Hello

This may just be a control issue. Transmissions are mechanical and electrical. A code reader can be hooked up to it and may tell more what's wrong. I'd take it to a good transmission shop and have them hook it up to their computer.

Is the van is good condition? Is it worth putting a transmission in?

Regards

Dan

One thing that we can hope that it is.....Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) switch.
It is on top of the transmission (external) and the cable that goes to the gear selector in the car connects to it. It tells the electronics what gear you have selected. It is not real hard to replace....and not very expensive. They do fail....it it would be a fraction of the cost of a tranny.
