Question Help Please!!!!

Okay guys, I need some expertise here. If one of you guys can help me with this problem you would make me the happiest girl in the world.

I have a 1994 Camaro Z-28 with the LT1 engine w/ auto 4 speed trans.

Here is my problem, while moving across the U.S. my car was parked for about an hour and a half while I had dinner. When I returned to the car, it would not start without pumping the hell out of the gas pedal. I figured maybe it was out of gas (gas gauge said it had some gas), finally got it started after several back fires and got it to stumble and back fire to the end of the restaurant parking lot to a gas station, filled the tank and still the same thing. made it maybe two blocks and the car stalled and would not start now AT ALL.

The car has set for a couple of months and recently I had it checked and it had no spark. So changed the Optispark, had fire and gas but still just turns over and won't start, I had the timing chain checked, everything good there. I took it to a friend and had it put on the computer, Air flow map sensor was not registering. So yesterday, I replaced the air flow map sensor and also the maf sensor (just in case). Still NOTHING! It has spark, gas and oil pressure but still it only turns over and won't start - it tries to start, almost hits and then nothing!

Now I am lost, can some here please help me? PLEASE ---- I AM DESPERATE!

Re: Help Please!!!!

Did you try re-setting the ECM after replacing the map?

Re: Help Please!!!!

Agreed. defintely try reseting the computer. the only other things i can thing of are possible valvetrain failure (not likely) and loss of compression, do a compression check.

reset computer by unplugging negative terminal from battery for ten minutes, then reconnect.

Re: Help Please!!!!

It two things to fire:
1 gas
2 spark
3 compression.

Even if it had a bad head gasket it would fire.
It looks like its the fuel pressure issue or computer failure. The engine is probably dry.

I dont know about the spark issues. Its strange that so many things would fail at once. I would defenatly look at the computer.

How is the battery . ( dont laugh-things like that happen-it will turn over, but wont start)

Whats up with it had no spark? It was running at first right, maybe bad, but running.

How much did it all cost to you?

Talking Re: Re: Help Please!!!!

I put new plugs and wires in it just two weeks before the car went down. I think my 'new' optispark maybe part of the problem, when we ran the testing it the optispark fires 3 or 4 times and then delays and then fires 3 or 4 more times before delaying again. I am in the process of replacing with another new optispark and new cap and rotor as well, just in case. I have no even calculated the money I have put into it yet. I will let you know as soon as I get it running. I am now a driven woman!!!!

By the way, I have gas, fire and compression! And, I have reset the ECM as well!

Re: Help Please!!!!

The holdign the gas pedal to start, and rough running, sounds to me liek you might have a vacuum leak somewhere

Re: Re: Help Please!!!!

First off I would like to say thank you to everyone for their input. Secondly, I am happy so say that my car is now running!!!!!

After replacing almost everything that I could think of and getting down it being either the computer or the coil. I had the coil changed and she started right up. I did have to replace the optispark as apparently I had an oil leak from the two seals behind the optispark and so I had oil in my opti. Anyways, she is now running and I am most definately the happiest girl in the world!!!!

Thanks to all of you guys again and a special thanks to 89IROC&RS for his allowing me to stalk him out for help on e-mail.

I hope you all have a happy thanksgiving!!!

Tammy
