Auto trans slipping in 1st gear, 87 4 cyl

I have a 87 Cavalier 4 cyl automatic. It has been running fine since I got it a couple months ago. I usually drive it in town under 50 mph. The other day I drove it at 65 – 70 MPH for only about 15 minutes to get to the store before it closed. When I got back in it 10 minutes later the transmission felt like it was slipping in first gear only, from a dead stop.

It goes into gear when I let off the accelerator and then drives fine until I have to stop again. Its been getting worse every day (takes longer to go into gear). There is enough fluid but I have not changed it.

Any ideas? Any help is much appreciated.

there is a rule of thumb,, change oil and filter

now when u remove the pan check the corner where the magnet is

if there is too much sludge around it. that might be the problem

never skip a tune up and fluid change when is recomemnded

lets start from there and tell me what happens good luck
