Could this be it?

When we last left our Hero Juicy, his 97 Chevy Blazer would not get a spark. I could not even put the truck in gear to put it in Neutral. The dash light would not come on while trying to start over. The Battery connection and ampage were fine. The lights, Radio, and wipers worked.

The fine guys/gals from the website all agreed that the problem would be that pesky Ignition Switch. I still needed to move the truck out of my friends garage to get it worked on.

Then I had a thought........

The truck has one of those remote starters on it. I walked up to the truck and started it via the remote. The dash lights came on and everything, I was home free right?

Wrong.

I put the key in the ignition and moved the key to the ON position like normal when using the remote. The second I tried to apply the brake to get it in gear, the whole truck went dead. I tried a few times, but to no avail. I quickly got it in gear before shut off on my 4th attempt. I got it towed to a Auto Clinic that did good work on my Maxima.

He told me that he thinks it has something to do with the remote started, not the ignition switch. Obviously he knows more than I do, but I thought it was strange because the remote actually starts it whereas the key does not. He said he could not find the starter module in the truck to disconnect it. He wanted to see if that was the problem. I still think the Ignition swith is faulty and I trust your judgement. I'm going to take(tow) it to a place that specializes in Electrical Auto problems.

What do you guys thinks?

Oh, my wife bought this truck before I knew her, and the remote was already on the vehicle. We don't think it was factory installed..

Any advice would be appreciated.

I lean towards a bad switch, because all remote starters require the Ignition to be in the on position in order to drive. You turn the switch on -it doesn't work properly, hit the brake to put it in drive- and the engine quits.

Waste $100.00 on the switch. It's a simple 1.5 hour replacement (I think the link to it was posted in your previous topic).
The worst that could happen is your ECM is shot, this costs over $600.00 to replace (unless you by a recycler's unit)

As for your remote starter, it's an aftermarket unit, look under your dash below the steering wheel for a small rocker/toggle switch to enable/disable the remote starter. If somebody reputable installed it, there will be a defeat switch.
Good Luck,
Mike

Re: Could this be it?

If you can start it with the remote, there is nothing wrong with the remote system.

Replace the ignition switch.

Sounds like the remote start is working just fine and is not the problem. From what you are saying, your problem is the switch. The remote start can work around the switch, and turning the switch to "run" will allow you to drive the vehicle. The remote starter interrupts the wire that sends a signal to run the engine after the switch, and the brake acts as a kill switch for this signal. Turning the key to "run" will allow the signal to keep coming from the switch after the remote start unit quits sending it.

Your problem is most likely either your switch or your connection going from the switch to the remote start unit or relay harness (depending on system).
