money vs power

What would you rather have, a 2002 Yamaha R6 for $7500 (price i can get it for) or a 2002 Honda CBR 954 for $9500? Thinking about buying one. Not sure if I want to save the money and buy the R6 and use the change to buy mods or just buy a 954 and have the bigger bike.

It depends on what you want in a bike.

If you want all out power, get a zx12 or Busa.

If you want a big motor and decent handeling, get a GSXR 1000 or 954.

The R6 has plenty of juice, but the bike is too small for me. My shoes hit the owers and I feel like I'm gonna fall off the front. I would rather get a GSXR 600.

You could get a GSXR 750. It has a lot of motor, excelent handeling, and a decent price.

7500 for a R6 is absurd unless it is a 2001 with low mileage, you can find them all day for like 5500-6500.

I would go with the R6, lower insurance rates, and small fractions of difference in performance. The 954 would be a much more forgiving bike in turns and whatnot then the R6.

Never!!! under-estimate the power of 600cc, i have a video of a R6 flooring it to about 160~ mph. It will destroy any modded car, R1s and 1Ks barely pull away.

I was wondering where you can get a brand new R6 for $5500-6500? I am talking about a new 2002 with no miles.

Also, I am only 5'8", so the R6 doesn't feel too small for me. The problem with gixxers for me is that the gas tank is fairly large, and my arms are short, so I have to lean pretty far over. I think I could handle it, but would rather go with the smaller sized frame.

You don't need to get a brand new bike unless money is like water. Most motorcycles lose 20% of their value in 1 year, 30% in 2 years, and like 40% at 3-4 years depending on mileage.

I own a R6, and although I have not yet ridden any of the late liter CBR line up, I would still say stick with the Yam. It is a very dependable bike, packs a bigger punch then the GSX600 and F4, and looks a hell of a lot better.

Look for a year 2000 R6 with low miles on cycletrader, you can find a few in your state more then likely ranging from 5500 - 7000.

7500 for a 2002 R6 is a good price though. is it from a dealership? If it is then you get a warranty which is a big plus.

I just did some SERIOUS riding in southern Ohio today. LOTS and LOTS of blind turns. My bike is awesome in a straight line but sucks in the turns. The guy in the lead of the pack had a RC-51. I still like the looks and it sounds great w/ the twin Micron pipes on it. He was ahead of the guys on the Cbr 900/929 bikes. We also had a semi talented rider on a R-1 who was lagging behind. He later commented that the hour/half highway ride killed his ass and his hands and back was hurting by the time he got there.


So from that... if you live in the hilly part of PA I would say by the R6 and spend the extra money on gear and track schools. However if you are doing straightline riding and/or stunting I would go for the bigger bike.

thanks for all the replies, i think i would go for the R6. I can get a brand new 2002 from a dealer for $7500 (my dad has been buying bikes there for 30 some years, so we practically live there), so the extra money will definitely be a plus. They have plenty of power, i don't think i need much more because I would like to gain more experience at aggressive driving on a track before going wild on the road. I have been riding for almost 3 years, but never had a huge power bike. Biggest I have driven is a Bandit 1200, but drove defensively most of the time, so I think the R6 would be a better choice.
