Clean stall / general engine maintenance (86 2.8L V6)
Hi,
Running into another problem, although I might know what it is. I figure I should post on here regardless for a little insight. Lately, i've been trying to do as much maintenance on this car as possible. Air/fuel filter has been changed, and clean oil so far. Would have done the oxygen sensory already, but I need a blowtorch (impossible to get off without destroying the exhaust manifold when cold). Anyways, after all that said and done, the car runs alot better. Starts almost immediatley, and doesn't stall out nearly as often.
The problem, it still stalls! The stall is much more "cleaner", and when I say that, I mean that it doesn't bog down really low and hard, then cut out. I usually get an initial stall a few minutes of being on the road. It doesn't matter if im at a light or night, regardless of the RPM. It'll cut out completly, and ill coast along. Usually, about 15 seconds after stalling, it'll pick right back up, and the "Service engine soon" light turns on. My guess would be the distributor cap has gone bad, although I see no visible damage. Does this sound right? The transmission pan needs to be immediatly replaced, but I can't see how this would stall out the engine. A final note on this, if it is in fact the distributor cap, would it be wise to buy a more expensive type, such as a brass one?
Finally, is ther any other general maintenance I should be doing? The PCV valve needs to be replaced, which i'll be doing very soon.
Any input is appreciated, thanks!
