rear flanged axle.

Hi, I just removed the rear drivers side flanged axle on my 97 rodeo 3.2L. I did this to change the lug bolts (which seemed like the only way to do it without hammering and putting stress on the bearing). Now, is there an easy way to take the seal and bearing off the axle to get the back plate off myself without taking it to a shop?
I am also having a hard time getting the passenger side axle out with the slide hammer puller. Are there any tricks? Is there an easier way to change the bolts without removing the axles?
Thanks for any info.

Al
