I have a 98 olds cutlass. Here's the problem. I can drive any speed and the abs and brake light will go on at the same time for about two seconds then shut off. There are no codes. It don't matter what speed, hot or cold. Any ideas?

Hi,
I don't have an answer, but a similar electrical 'ghost'. Maybe it will help trigger a reaction in someone else's "diagnostic thinking"? I've had this happen just once, a couple of months ago on a very hot day (usually climate here is fairly chilly...) : The ABS / brake light came on, and stayed on. Then, when I braked, the speedometer needle would shoot up 10 or 15 MPH. When I let go of the brake, the speedometer dropped back to normal. I stopped, turned the igintion off & back on, and the problem was gone. Light went out. It hasn't happened again, but then again, we didn't have any more of those extremely hot days neither. --> Temperature related ?? Maybe some electronic chip, or a chafed wire harness acting up when gets real hot outside? I hope you find the answer. Good luck, Wekke 94 Olds Cutlass Ciera 3.1 72 Ford LTD |

Re: brake\abs lights
i never had any problems with the speedo. Just cruising around town or highway it will do it for two seconds then go off, no problems with the brakes and the abs does work properly. ?? gm gremlins
