shifter loose

i went on vacation and left my '02 at my brothers place (whether he drove it or not is unknown). but when i came back, my shifter now pops out on the right side at the ball area when i move the shifter to the left (for 1st + 2nd gears). it's no so much of a problem that the car no longer functions, but to get into 1st gear i have to kind of slap the shifter left then into gear quickly, or i can shift into 2nd and from there get into 1st a little easier.

as one might think, this is an annoying problem, but i've gotten used to it and barely even notice anymore. however, i'm now considering getting a short shift and the question comes up as to what actually broke / came loose on the shifter i have now. i don't know if i should fix this problem before getting the short shift, or if putting in a new shifter will solve the problem anyway.

what do you guys recommend? i can take pictures if that'll help show the problem...

Re: shifter loose

i got the short shift and put it in. the problem ended up being the upper O-Ring having snapped. took me 4 hours total and i cracked a plastic part doing it... but everything survived alright.

looooooove my b&m short shift.
