wiring harness hmmm

okay my shop is saying that my wiring harness "smokes" whenever he trys to hook the computer up to it to read trouble codes...has anyone ever had these issues before?

what could it be?

not too sure, but i'm parting out a parts car, im not sure how hard it is to get the complete wireing harness out of hte car... let me know
