Question about types of turbo's

I'm considering buying either a newer prelude or a civic si and was wondering about the different types of turbos out there. I have heard several different numbers and letters being tossed around and being a v8 mustang doesnt grant me too much knoweledge about turbos. I was mainly wondering which kind of turbo will give me the most power but still allow me to keep it as a good daily driver and not damage the car( too much). If anybody has any input it would be greatly appreciated.THX

Re: Question about types of turbo's

there are tons of Civic's, Integras and some Preludes (i don't know of very many personally) that cruise around w/ 3-400whp. You can make as much power as you really want, but i assume you're talking about doin it on the stock engine....

There are a lot of options and ways to go about making that kind of power....i would suggest reading that site the superbluecivicsi gave you and then checking out the Hondatech classifieds....they have good prices!

I would think that $4000 would be a safe estimate for a budget. You can do it for a lot less and you probably will, but just give yourself some leeway.

I would suggest running the gt28rs on the car for your power goals. It is a little pricey because it is a ballbearing turbo, but a buddy of mine is running that turbo on his hatch with b18c engine and it is a f*cking blast on the street. Instant throttle response and still enough room up top to make 350whp. It is my opinion the best street turbo out there.

Re: Question about types of turbo's

GT28rs is a good one, but i thought it'd be a tad to small to make 350whp safely.....

350whp is pretty much maxing it out, but with such a linear torque curve on a street car I think that if you kept it at around 320whp or so at about 15-18psi it would still feel a lot faster than a little larger turbo at 350whp. If he wanted something that spooled a little later and made more power, but still had very little lag he could always go with the t3/to4e 57 trim .63a/r. I am partial to the gt28rs after driving my friends car, cause that thing is a blast!

Re: Question about types of turbo's

they're dual ball bearing....i'm sure it costs a lot to make it, but there is also a higher demand for them so the price is high so that the other turbos Garrett sells, keep sellin

Supply and demand.....
