91 legacy tranny

My tranny went out, I replaced it with a used one from ASAP moters in Texas, reverse was out in it, sent me another one and 3rd and 4th gear are out of it. I'm told that subaru tranny's are problomatic. They also told me that the computer could be the problem. Can't find anybody that want's to rebuild it for less than $2,000. I love this car and don't want to get rid of it. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated Thanks

First time I've heard Subaru trannies are problematic....maybe they don't know how to work on them?
