FWD -> RWD -> AWD

Just for thoughts.
With all this informations and heed warnings for 3sgte swaps, boosting motors, etc that gives circa 200-250 WHP.....
Shouldn't them FWD (excluding alltracs and GT-four of course) drivetrain be "moded" as well? Isnt RWD or AWD the way to go (at least) for true compact racing cars -> drift/touge/rally/drag/freeway/light-to-light...
The reason I say this is bc as I was planning to make more power meself, I had the chance to test drive an sti scoob just last week. Then it dawned on me that alltracs NEED them HP and torque to turn FOUR wheels. Hell of a difference in handling and control.
SO...what I wanted to know is, how feasible is making our FWD into AWD? someone here is about to drop a motor in the rear...making it an RR. thats awesome! (daring enuff to have a hard time too). How crazy is an AWD celica w/ rear engine? I keep thinking about this in my head.

well i know that if you want to take a fwd celica and drop in the alltrac awd and stuff that you need a Alltrac for a parts car which you would have to tear apart which would be a waste i mean if you got the at to start with with rip into it to mod a regualr you know

you need things like the floor boards as the drive shaft for the awd system i think its driveshaft and parts of the tranny wont fit with the regular floor

to make it midengined and awd would take some serious modifying of the tranny, and chassis

you need to relocate the gas tank cut up the frame and paneling, rig up something to keep the fumes from killing you as you drive, route all the lines hoses etc etc, and somehow make axils for the wheels

Re: FWD -> RWD -> AWD

yeah, I understand the magnitude of works and time that can possibly entail to do the task...and then more... But Im just curious. If the prospect is ripping an alltrac to mod a reg ST/GT then it is a waste of time. <~~ (isnt this the big idea of swapping 3sgtes into gt/s now...? unless its a "hobby" and u got time and really comes waay cheaper than buying an alltrac itself) But just if it so happens that I want to make mid engine AWD, even the alltrac's floorboard will have to be fabricated too. In this case, will the drive shaft be working in reverse (turning front wheels instead of rear) Is there such a car? Or am I just dreaming something totally outrageous and wont ever work, considering that the drivetrain parts itself could be very scarce to none. But nevertheless sounds really cool to me...hehehe.

well what i was saying about it being a waste sort of is that to make teh st/gt awd basically an alltrac you would need an alltrac to start with and rip it totally aprt down to chassis and frame

the 3sgte engines come from other cars as well in japan

the only type of cars i think that fit the profile of rear engine awd are exotics like lambo's

you could probably fab something up for insane amounts of time and money

handling would be crazy at first drive if you ever pulled it off, i think you could become famous for it too, putting it all over magazines you know

Re: FWD -> RWD -> AWD

Do you mean crazy handling as in good or bad? I would imagine real good, since the Front-Rear weight is better proportioned, but thats just my opinion. How insane is this $ do u figure? Do u think 10-15 Gs can pull it off for parts alone? I dunno anything about exotics...are they rear engined AWDs? is the AWD Evo8 MR rear engined?

Re: FWD -> RWD -> AWD

If you wanna change a regular celica into an alltrac, all you have to change chassis wise is the boot floor, the rest is all the same, or similar enough to make do. Have seen it done with my own two eyes.

Re: FWD -> RWD -> AWD

i agree with layzienoy ull need a alltrac as a donor and if you were willing to destroy the very rare alltrac to soup up a gt then shame on you.

Re: FWD -> RWD -> AWD

I'm not up to ruin an alltrac, thats for sure. What I wanted to do is build my own ride. BUT, what Im really interested in is a rear engine all-trac. Kind of AWD MR-2. I discussed this before w/ someone who is familiar w/ subarus...and they said "theres no need for rear-engine AWDs, bc it defeats the real purpose of making it rear engined....etc,etc,etc."
I dont know if it exist at all...but even if it sounds pointless to make, Ill still do the research and eventually start somewhere. If its doable, I even thought of integrating the 4-wheel steering system in it....ALL from a standard celica.
I happen to major in in transportation design, sooo, I wanted the experience of fabricating major parts. Although @ this time, mb my creativity overlooks technicality...(whats possible/useful or not)
