4t60e transmission... came in what other vehicles?
Hi,
I have a 94 pontiac transport with a 3.8l auto (I believe that should only be the 4t60e right??) tranny doesnt wanna shift into drive if coming from park/neutral and can take awhile... however if coming from reverse it pops in fine. Local junks want fat wads of cash for a new tranny and I'm broke as sin. What other cars/trucks came with this same tranny that I could cross reference and see if I could find a better local deal? Maybe even another one I could use just swaping the bellhousings/etc nothing terribly major or custom. Anything else I could use and drop in? stock van daily driver nothing special. thanks |

Check car-part.com. This site will not only allow you to find a transmission in your area but also tell you which vehicles have the same transmission. Unfortunately, you may be limited to a transmission from a similar van like a Lumina.

Re: 4t60e transmission... came in what other vehicles?
I'm just thinking loud...so maybe.......From what you say and from what you can see here
www.avigex.ca/xport/transmissionranges.jpg the common element used by reverse as well as 1st gear in Drive range is the input clutch. It seems that in reverse, you have enough pressure to apply this clutch and it keeps applied if you switch fast to Drive...but going to Drive from Neutral will not be able to apply it because at same time it tries to apply Forward Band (but is able to keep the input clutch if it is already applied.) Looks like the forward band actuator seal or O-ring is damaged and leaks pressure and this is an "external" component that can be changed from the side of the transmission. ![]() I'd check seriously for this before going to advanced surgery. By the way, I'd remove the transmission oil pan (easy but you will spill a lot of fluid) and check for clogged filter and debris. THis can tell much about the present condition of the transmission.
