Rear Deck Speaker Removal

Hello folks,

I'm back with more stupid questions on how to dismantle the interiorof my GP.

After painting my dash, consol, and a lot of accept peices an amazing metal flake red, (pics eventually) I want to do the same to the speaker covers on the rear deck.

But I have no idea how to get the darn things off without breaking them. Could someone help?

Also, on the pieces that cover the actual speaker (the plastic with the holes in it) there is paper lining the backs of those parts. Where can i get replacement paper for it, because i have to remove it to paint, or do I need it?

Ok, thaks again

Re: Rear Deck Speaker Removal

The speaker grills come off with the entire rear deck cover. You have to remove the rear seat to get the rear deck cover off. To remove the seat, there are two pull-rings in the seam between the carpet and lower seat cushion that release the lower cushion. There are 4 bolts, two 10mm outer and two 18mm inner (they also retain the rear seat belts) that retain the upper cushion. Then lift and pull outward on the rear cushion to remove it from the upper hook retainers. You'll then see two nylon push retainers about the size of a quarter(one on each side) that you pry out (carefully). You may have to get in the trunk to relase the two tabs from the speaker grills where they go through the rear shelf, then just slide the whole assembly forward and it should come right out. I never tried to separate the grills from the carpeted shelf, so I'm not sure if they are glued together or what.
